Wealth Management Sees Higher Demand Due to Pandemic

The pandemic increased families’ demand for wealth management services. In addition to the insecurities brought by the disease, the economic effects generated by the crisis led people to concern themselves with other matters. Such as succession planning and asset allocation.

This movement is also reinforced by the low returns with the Selic rate at the lowest historical levels. The article by Fernanda Bompan and Álvaro Campos was published on the website of the newspaper Valor Econômico on March 11.

“When the situation seems heavier, like the one we are experiencing [with the pandemic], this gives room for people to make decisions,” says Mari Emmanouilides, founding partner of Taler Gestão de Patrimônio. According to the executive, demand was so great that Taler’s wealth management and succession planning area grew 30% in the past year. Even with service provided in a home office.

Wealth management moves billions of reais

The volume managed by wealth management firms reached R$ 220.5 billion in 2020. This represents a growth of 32.7% compared to the previous year. The data come from the Brazilian Financial and Capital Markets Association (Anbima).

The information comes from Diário do Comércio, of Minas Gerais. In the article published on March 12 on its website, the newspaper highlights that, in this segment, investors are represented by economic groups. That is, families of clients that may contain one or more CPFs (Individual Taxpayer Registry numbers), depending on the classification adopted by each institution.

The publication further emphasizes that these groups had a 35.3% increase in the period. They went from 5,838 in 2019 to 7,900 last year.

“In crisis situations, it is common to highlight the risks, but little is said about the protection mechanisms and the market opportunities found in volatile moments. It is precisely in a crisis that the dedicated work of wealth managers stands out,” says the association’s director, Jan Karsten.

“Faced with the turbulence of 2020, clients were able to count on the advice of specialists. These helped not only to protect the wealth of those with less appetite for risk, but also to outline strategies that leveraged the investments of those with an appetite for more aggressive applications,” he adds.
