Any citizen can check, by cell phone, the debts of companies and individuals with the government – the debtors of the Union. The Office of the Attorney-General of the National Treasury (PGFN) launched an application that facilitates access to the list of those in default with the federal government.
Called Dívida Aberta and available for smartphones with the Android and iOS systems, the application allows photographing the QR code (a code design) printed on the invoice and discovering the situation of an establishment. It is also possible to locate the nearest debtor companies by means of GPS.
The application links the commercial name of the companies to the corporate name, often different from the disclosed brand. To maintain privacy, the georeferencing (location by GPS) is not available for individuals, only for companies. The situation of individuals, however, may be verified by means of a query of the CPF.
Debtors of the Union – taxes, among others
Among the debts listed by the application are taxes, social security contributions in arrears and the Severance Indemnity Fund (FGTS) of employees not deposited. According to the attorney’s office, debts paid in installments, secured or with suspended enforceability (suspended by the courts) are not presented in the query.
Currently, there are 5.5 million debtors enrolled in the Active Debt of the Union who have not tried to regularize their situation. According to the attorney’s office, the debts total R$ 1.9 trillion.
According to the Ministry of the Economy, the application aims to encourage conscious consumption and increase the transparency of the information on active debt and the FGTS. Currently, the attorney’s office updates the list of debtors of the Union on the internet every three months, in a section of the agency’s site called open data.
The attorney’s office also provides information on the taxpayers who renegotiated their active debt. The citizen can check the situation in the Installments Panel section, on the attorney’s office site.
