On Tuesday of this week (the 25th), the Federal Revenue Service began the second stage of the Tax Mesh Project for Legal Entities (Projeto Malha Fiscal da Pessoa Jurídica) in 2017, focused mainly on tax evasion relating to Social Security Contributions. From June 2012 to December 2016, the total indications of evasion identified amounted to R$ 532.3 million, involving 7,271 companies.
To alert companies about inconsistencies declared in the Guide for the Collection of the FGTS and Information to Social Security (GFIP), the Sub-Secretariat for Inspection began sending letters.
Should the inconsistencies be confirmed, it will be necessary for the taxpayer to submit the amending GFIP, in addition to paying the differences in the amounts of Social Security Contributions with the applicable legal increments.
The company that finds an error in the information provided or an undertaxed amount may self-regularize until the start of the inspection procedure, scheduled for June 2017.
Consultation – The inconsistencies found by the Tax Authorities (Fisco) can be consulted in a statement attached to the letter, and the guidelines for self-regularization in the very body of the letter that was sent by the Revenue Service to the registered address contained in the National Registry of Legal Entities (CNPJ) system.
Attention – To confirm the authenticity of the letters sent, the Revenue Service sent a message to the mailbox of the respective taxpayers, which can be accessed through the e-CAC.
